本属は17種が新大陸から知られるが、本種は世界中の熱帯、亜熱帯に広く分布する。日本では本州から琉球列島に分布する。寄主植物はドクムギ属等のイネ科の花。

Seventeen species are known from the New World in this genus, but this species is widely distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions around the world. In Japan, it is known from Honshu to the Ryukyu Islands, and breeds on the flowers of Poaceae such as Lolium species.
